Tucano display disbanded - T2 Hawk to replace

No more Tucano display, but it is being replaced by the T.2 Hawk display.

We can confirm that the Tucano Display Team, which is based at RAF Linton on Ouse, will not operate in 2015 or thereafter. Instead the Hawk T2, the latest version of the RAFs advanced flying training platform will provide a role demonstration to showcase fast jet flying training.

UK AVIATION NEWS :- RAF TUCANO DISPLAY TEAM DISBAND WITH HAWK T.2 REPLACEMENT

Earlier today, the RAF Tucano Display Team confirmed that they will not be providing aerial demonstration's at air shows in 2015 or in the foreseeable future...

The Royal Air Force currently have a fleet of roughly 40 aircraft after the fleet has dwindled down over the years, all of which are based at RAF Linton-on-Ouse. The Royal Air Force has confirmed that the Tucano fleet is to be replaced by the more modern and advanced Beechcraft T-6 Texan II, with dates of the Tucano's retirement still unknown...

To replace the RAF Tucano Display Team at shows in and around the UK, the Royal Air Force will be demonstrating one of their newest advanced jet training aircraft fleet in the form of the BAE Systems Hawk T.2!

Good to see a new (ish) display aircraft in the Hawk T.2,the Tucano displays do tend to be ignored by many,as the aircraft is a bit small and often displayed much too far out.


I didn`t realise the T-6 Texan II purchase had been confirmed.(After a quick check it was announced 24/10/2014) T-6C Texan II`s to train RAF and RN pilots.

It seems the 2015 Hawk T.2 display will be a pairs display and not a solo display as originally thought.

The 2015 RAF Hawk T2 role demonstration (announced recently as the replacement for the Tucano display) will be comprised of a pair of Hawks.

I am surprised that they can find enough slack to provide two ( plus a standby? ) out of a fleet of just 28.

But upon reflection methinks the Arrows' days are numbered with this announcement.

Red Arrows will reveal their new tail fin tomorrow on Sky News from 6am (no actual time given) A few have seen it but everyone who has, has been asked not to post any images until after the reveal tomorrow morning.

The 2 Hawk announcement has not officially come from the RAF though yet it seems. Just been circulating airshow pages today.

That's not it   Though some of the Hawks are still using that tail fin. And some are using the old 2013 scheme. I think only 2 of them have the new tail fin so far. 

 The Typhoon Display is also getting a new paint job for 2015.

i had a look at it if this is the new fin markings.  better to paint over it

Maybe you didn`t notice the date for that tail design-it was for last year 2014 season.

Flt Lt's Ben Polwin and Toby Keeley from IV(R) Sqn, RAF Valley, planning their display for the new Hawk T2 Role Demo for the 2015 airshow season. The two-ship display will showcase the capabilities of the BAE Hawk T2, one of the worlds most advanced fast-jet trainers. Ben and Toby are both highly experienced fast jet pilots, and are QFI's (Qualified Flying Instructors) with IV(R) Sqn. Watch this space - we'll be following Ben and Toby throughout the season!

The RAF never wanted Tucano, y'know.  The procurement was seen as "political".

Some fine spring (and some grotty winter) days spent on the beak from school, down the old path past the bridge when a new one was being rolled out.  Fine times.

They dovetailed with Hawk.

The Saudi's procurement system doesn't even pretend to reflect need, exigency or even a modicum of common sense. They buy off whoever is good for business.
