360radar.co.uk
« on: January 22, 2017, 09:42:44 PM »
Hi, I know there are a lot of virtual radar type sites but I've been using 360radar.co.uk for a while and it's great for milair type stuff too.

I'm not affiliated with it in any way but if there were folks from this group who could subscribe and upload data it would be great for the coverage. You can a free subscription if you share data - Windows or Raspberry Pi clients are available. If you are already using Dump1090 then its really easy to upload to 360R as you've done half the work already.

I've recently upgraded from stock dongle to a flightaware version with amp built in which is a pretty cool job.

If not uploading you can still subscribe - details here - http://signup.360radar.co.uk/

What is their military coverage in NI like? A lot of sites the military aircraft go off radar as soon as they reach the IoM.

Pretty good in the east actually, you often see the Islanders/helos on it.

I dont know much about how the data is recorded and shown on the map but I would think it depends on aircraft height and distance from the equipment picking it up as to how far away they are detected. What I can say is I was on it for a year or so up until recently as a test user and was picking up the US herks coming in to Aldergrove while they were still off the Donegal coast so the coverage here is very good.

Time to subscribe, I think it's £20 for a year's subscription.

I've seen the USN Herks plotting down to 3000ft on descent into EGAA, and outbound they usually appear around Saintfield.

Not a lot happening this evening but here's a screenshot anyhow, just the MLAT stuff.

Out of interest, does it have aircraft identification when you click on it, telling you what type of aircraft it is etc like FR24 does?

Signed up yesterday, quite like seeing more Military movements. Noticed the PSNI aircraft up most of the afternoon. I have however spotted a glider that has been just east of Oxford since yesterday. It just hangs there lol. Same height, same speed always but never moves.

Does it offer a playback function like FR24 does and also does it pick up local light aircraft& helis?

No playback function. If a/c are transmitting data and there is enough coverage then yes.

Edit: EI-ICR S92 currently plotting at 200' over the City. Not bad!

One thing I do like already is that all military aircraft are marked in red :)

Military will also appear in Green. Those that do are 'Special Tail' Military Aircraft.

White = ADSB, Blue = MLAT and Red = military. Green = special tail mil aircraft

Back on 360radar, what a fantastic App, really recommend it if interested in military stuff. Agree with Paul though, it sometimes causes the wife to get angry..............
I can't understand it!

Ps. The range seems far greater now than when I was on it as a test user some months ago, aircraft in Italy even showing and saw a couple of Reach callsigns easily 100 miles off coast of ROI in the Atlantic so hope to get plenty of heads up time!

It really is class. This morning I've seen local helos and Islander and IAC PC9 and A139s all plotting. Coverage can get even better so if anyone can upload that would be great.
