As long as the Reds appear the place will be rammed, we are very much a minority as enthusiasts

scroll down to the Newcastle section!

Not cancelled, Down Festivals have put up Newcastle FoF in the 'event' section of their FB page this past weekend.

I think the bigger problem is communication and publicity. I've had many message me saying Down Festivals are not replying to anything and haven't even released any display info outside of Red Arrows. Questions asked go ignored and comments on their FB also unanswered and no one has any idea what's going on.

I expected a few cancellations, I didn't expect 2 RAF and Strikemaster though.

The council messaged me this morning asking for my email address to send things to, so I think we will know for sure in the coming days.

OK, the council rang me there. Had a great chat with them.

The Chinook and Strikemaster etc were not cancelled as such, they had a provisional list with a number of displays and a final decision was made in June of which would display. Those that were 'cancelled' as such were not actually confirmed as booked but just on a shortlist and had been contacted regarding availability on the date, provisional booking but not confirmed one it seems . As for the RAF, they were applied for and allocated Chinook, however it didn't make the final flight programme due to budget.

Ermmm.thats sounds like leaving things rather late to me,and also it`s rather misleading to announce a display if it hasn`t been paid for and confirmed.

Council never announced the Chinook, it came from the RAF Chinook schedule. But yes, it was leaving things late. Apparently the 2 day decision was only made 100% in May

Just said Irish air corps in the paper. I meant to put (CASA?)

Chipmunk display wasn't mentioned in paper, but the operators are preparing for the display as they have not heard they were cancelled.

Falcon's are not named on the article, just says parachute display team among the RAF displays.

They had a great proposal, sadly its not happening it looks like.

They were looking at a 5 ship Chipmunk formation flight with the Irish Historic Flight Chipmunks. That would have been great to see. Sadly IHF have said they won't be at Newcastle.

I am happy with the line up this year. It's rather varied and has moved away from booking the same displays as we've seen since 2015. Outside of military aircraft Rich Goodwin is the only returning display. Blades and Wingwalkers are great displays too.

I would say that is a good possibility. Newcastle is their only show that day. Blackpool is Sunday only for the Reds.

Sadly the weather forecast doesn`t look too wonderful for Saturday-it`s also Ulster GP week at Dundrod, and they tend to be very unlucky with the weather.
Hopefully it won`t be a complete washout.Friday looks to be the worst of it with heavy rain,Saturday at Newcastle might just be ok,but at BFS still wet.

Won't make the airshow this year.  Hoping to watch the Arrows arrive into Aldergrove for  1300, if the weather holds off!
