Sydenham displays snippets
« on: November 21, 2017, 05:47:43 PM »
Just dumping stuff as I find it in the archives as my brain is too small to accommodate it all.

Dates I've found so far for the RAFA Sydenham displays, called pageants in 1952 and earlier:

?? August 1949
Betty Skelton Pitts?

?? August 1951
Bristol Brabazon

14 June 1952
Short Sperrin, Canberra, Anson WJ561 ( the last one built )

?? June 1954 ( probably 12th, second Saturday)
PdF Ouragans

11 June 1955
See attachment.  807 Sqn FAA were on Sea Hawks at that time.

09 June 1956
PdF Ourgans?
USAF T-33?
Seamew crashed

1966
RAF Red Arrows?

26 June 1971
RAF Red Arrows
Sea Vixen XN650, static?

In 1971 a RN Buccaneer displayed as well a RN Phantom that finished with a zoom climb over the airfield.

I think there were Buccaneer, Sea Prince, and Hunter on static plus a Skyvan or two.

The Rothmans Stampes displayed.

A 72 Squadron Wessex dropped a car in the area of the fire dump where the Firebrand sat, or what was left of it.

Another static was PA-28-140 Cherokee G-ATMV of Woodgate that subsequently crashed on 17/05/1974 on White Mountain if my memory is correct.

Sydenham Firebrand carcass was EK768, now only survives as an Emirates flight code...
