16th April 1913.....The first Schneider Trophy air races are held at Monaco,Maurice Prevost won in a Deperdussin Monoplane,with an avergae speed of the 6.2mile course of a blistering 45.75 mph.
16th April 1923.....Lt McCready and Lt Kelly USAAS flew a modified Fokker F.IV over a closed circuit at Ohio,for a duration record 36hrs,14mins and 8 secs non-stop.
16th April 1929.....The first flight of the Short Gurnard,a single engine,two seat biplane naval fighter.It failed to attract orders,and only two were completed.
