02-05 June 2019

Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the 'big drop', starting at Duxford and doing drops over the LZs before continuing to Caen.

Scenic flights to be available at each airport.

I will be in Benouville from 1st to 15th June 2019, assuming I'm still breathing.

They were very successful in 2014, albeit on a slightly smaller scale but I'd have to say that they were incredibly lucky with the wx that year.

I`ve never been to a Duxford show,the static line in front of the crowd always put me off,but it is on my "to do" list.

Won't be at Daks, but will be at Duxford the weekend before for the May airshow. Hopefully a good few of them will be over by then as the ones from America are making the transit in May.

I'm booked for Carpiquet on the 8th.
Edit:- There's another event at the same time, L-Birds Back To Normandy. Largest collection of light obs/army co-op aircraft gathered since the big day allegedly. They have an public day, but one kind of gets the impression through e-mail etc. that it's more in the nature of a fly-in in cammo.

Probably not going to make a massive amount of difference to the Duxford end of things, but the organisers and the folk who own the DZ/LZ in France appear to have fallen out big style.

Currently slinging insults at each other on social media, so I expect there'll be itinerary changes. Shame as there's a nice little restaurant next to DZ-N.

The odd thing is, I know a guy on the local débarquement committee and they met last night. No problems reported with the Daks.

If anyone is heading over for this from NI by Ryanair be aware that they have cancelled their Stansted flights as of June. Would have been nice of them to let me know...

So that was my first and last booking with O'Leary!

Managed to get rebooked on Easy, not great flight times but at least it'll work.

Thankfully i had used Easy jet as I don't really like Stansted. A bit more driving from Brum but doesn't really bother me. Squeezing in a few other places I want to see while I'm across. Cramming in Bletchley Pk, Shuttleworth Flying Fest, Muckleburgh Collection and a bit of time at Lakenheath and then two days at Duxford

In all honesty chaps, if I were booking anything based solely on seeing the Daks right now, I'd pay the extra few quid for the "option to cancel" if possible. Will be clearer after mid-May when the N. American contingent are scheduled to cross the pond.

What ever the issues are,I hope they can be overcome sensibly,it would be a real disaster for something as special,and important as this to be affected by petty squabbles.
