No Red Arrows for Newcastle or Portrush 2019
« on: October 21, 2018, 02:00:15 PM »
Looks like no Red Arrows for here, or any show in the UK during August & September. 2019. Reds are off on a 9 week tour.

Quote
The Red Arrows are set to carry out their largest ever tour of North America as they paint the skies of the US and Canada red, white and blue.

Announcing the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team’s historic nine-week programme, Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said the Red Arrows would display across the Americas, reaching millions of people and showcasing the very best of British aviation.

Air Vice-Marshal Warren James, the senior RAF officer responsible for the Red Arrows, said: “The deployment of the Red Arrows will demonstrate the global reach and capability of the RAF and our continuing support of the United Kingdom’s defence and commerce industries.

"We are very much looking forward to our visit in August and September of 2019.”

It will be interesting to see what,if anything the organisers of both shows come up with as a possible replacement for the Reds, perhaps they won`t have a show.

It would be nice to see something different, like one of the main European Teams.

Because the red arrows aren't displaying next year could be a chance for the organisers to take a step back and go from the start again to see if they can get some new stuff, the belgian f16 and the saab were big guns to get in, some more of that wud be great

It's going to force some display directors to think outside the box and not go for the 'safe display' in the Reds that are usually the headline display.

Some of the reactions on Bournemouth's post regarding this are shocking, blaming them for no Reds next year.

In early Newcastle news there was a meeting of the Enterprise, Tourism and Regeneration committee that included a section of the meeting about the Flight director a week or so ago, but it was closed to the public/reporters as it included personal finances.

Newcastle may expand on STEM village for 2019.

Interestingly there will be 2 new RAF displays for 2019. Phenom & Prefect on the display applications and the Texan II also on it for a flypast.

Doubtful. Outside of RIAT and other big shows I think it will be a while before we get an F35 display.

Breaking News!!!

"The 2019 Headline Act will be....... the Autogyro!"

I even heard on the 'QT' that the Piper will be flying around in the background taking photos of the crowds. It will be the aeronautical spectacle of a lifetime!

However, don't expect anything from England to turn up because despite the satellite images CLEARLY showing clear weather over there, apparently conditions are too bad at the bases for teams to make it over here :D

There.. you heard it here first folks! ;-)

I've been a bit 'playful' on the Newcastle FoF FB page lately. I've been telling people we will have formation flying by Kites (weather permitting) as a team of AutoGyro's just costs too much in fuel costs.

Anyway, applications to the RAF have gone in as normal and replacement acts are being looked for for  'innovative ways of expanding the 2019' It has also been proposed that there also the possibility of 'Doing something in the water' according to a local councillor.

Quote
“I have always said the festival should have other components and maybe we could also look at doing something on the water with the promenade providing the perfect amphitheatre,

Quote
The festival is a major revenue generator and drives the local economy, not just in Newcastle but the surrounding area. It’s now important the key players get together to plan for next summer’s festival given that the Red Arrows are unlikely to appear.”

Rick Peacock Edwards may not be Flying Display Director for Newcastle 2019. A Tender has been put out by the council for appointment of a FDD. The contract will be for 2019 with an option to extend for the 2020 & 2021 Newcastle airshows. Rick Peacock Edwards was extended to 2018 last year, but it looks like they could be looking for a new one.

Council should consider bringing Jeff Salter back and giving him a good budget.
