Army disputes crash 'clue'

AUSTRALIAN defence chiefs have disputed claims that mechanical failure might have caused the fatal crash of a Black Hawk helicopter off Fiji.
They say it would have been impossible for the pilot, Captain Mark Bingley, to have activated a mechanical failure alarm seconds before the chopper went down on November 29.

Brigadier Nick Bartels, commander of the army's 16th Brigade (Aviation), said yesterday that Black Hawks did not have such alarms.
