Qatar QTR39c divert

I saw flight QR740/QTR39c (Airbus A350-1041 A7-AND) was speaking 7700 and came off the Alantic and diverted to EDI. I thought BFS was classed as an emergency divert airport a few years back or am I wrong??

No, I don`t think you are wrong--any aircraft squawking 7700 is usually a full emergency, but it can be any number of things, from a tech fault, ill /disruptive / passengers or even crew.
I am sure their are others on here that can give better insight, I would think if it`s a really big problem, then nearest suitable airfield would do just fine.
Other considerations could be related to the paperwork involved, and if an airline has any sort of arrangement with particular airports / ground handling agents.

Most diversions are not of the "we are on fire" variety and so the airline's ops people are usually involved in the decision and indeed can make arrangements with the receiving airport. Whether the carrier already operates to an airport seems to be one of the criteria, presumably in part because handling and company representation arrangements will already exist.
