SAR Demo Enniskillen
« on: May 20, 2010, 11:07:12 PM »
Was in Enniskillen today in works van and noticed some posters about a SAR Demo being held at the Lakeland Forum Enniskillen thi weekend.

I think it said 22ndMay (didn`t notice a time-sorry) and features the RNLI and Irish Coastguard S-61.

Might be worth a trundle down if the weather behaves.

Weather looks like its going to behave and since I'm in the 'neighbourhood' I'll take a scoot over to have a gander.

Anyone else going to be about?

Well I did go, weather was great until I got to Enniskillen and then it clouded over  :(

Unfortunately the S-61N from the Irish Coast Guard was a no show (we weren't told why). However the local PSNI were able to pull some strings and got an EC-135 to make an appearance.

Note this is one of the two additional helicopters that recently arrived to supplement G-PSNI. A quick check on A.net shows that it was previously based at Wolverhampton Airport which I'm guessing means it was attached to West Midlands Police.

Got speaking to the pilot who told me that the PSNI's new helicopter, an EC-145 apparently, is due to arrive in the new few months.

I think the 145 is due here in August.I heard the S61 (CXS) on the radio around 1530hrs - it was operating in the Bundoran area.
Not sure if it was a call - out though.
