Best plane of all time?
« on: December 06, 2005, 09:31:47 PM »
Was asked today what the best airplane in the world was? I replied that it really depended on what they meant by 'best' and what role the aircraft did.

So what are you top 3 fighter/interceptor, ground attack, bomber, helicopter gunship?

Still compiling my list and will post soon.

There are just so many possibilities that a certain 3 can't be names, although the F-14 and F-22 would be up there.

Gorund attack, I'm sure the A-10 would be near the top.

Bomber, B-2 for sure, B-52 and B-1 aren't bad.

Helo Gunship:  AH-64D would prbably be first or second.

I know that all of mine are American, but that's because I see them so often.  I've never seen a modern MIG or Sukhoi or anything to compare them too.

May they rest in peace, those graceful masters of the sky...

Happiness is Tomcat-Shaped.

I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning.

Think mine would have to be:

Fighters/Interceptors

 - F-15 Eagle

 - F-14 Tomcat

 - Tornado F3

Ground Attack

 - Tornado

 - Jaguar

 - Harrier

Bomber

 - B-52

 - B-1

 - Vulcan

Helicopter gunship

 - Apache

 - Cobra

 - Commanche (I know it didn't go into production but if it did I think it would have been one of the best)

Couldn't agree more.
Of the 7 you have listed I have only seen one in the 'flesh' - F-16
Would love to have seen the Tomcat and the BUFF
