I usually go near the tennis courts but this time I am going to the other side Black Rocks I think-too much back lighting problems on the tennis side :-\,plus you get buffited by the wind like crazy:not good with a long zoom lens fitted :(

I wouldn`t get too concerned about the forecast yet-it`s still 9 days to go and the weather forecast normally cant get 24 hrs ahead right let alone 9 days!

Ramore Head is unbeatable for the Typhoon (Sat 5.20pm, Sun 4.15pm) because he does get really close at that point. Backlighting isn't such a problem beacuse you're looking straight up into his exhaust ports! I don't know if it's in my head but I could feel a heat haze as it climbed. Other people thought the same.

Crowd centre is good for the Reds' breaks and this year's beach landing.

Black Rock is good for pics (sun behind) with Portrush town as back drop. Helos usually approach BELOW the cliff height to give some unique shots.

But if you're like me, forget fiddling with cameras and watching through a viewfinder - just sit back, relax and enjoy the displays!

Agree with you to an extent TTF,but it depends on what the individual wants from the airshow.
For me I go to airshows to watch and take photos-its quite a challange to get shots of fast moving aircraft and thats part of the satisfaction.

As I said I normally am near the Tennis courts but I fancy a change and would like to try the other side-you are correct that many of the aircraft do fly close to Ramore (and also Black Rocks)but if they do that it`s almost impossible to get a good photograph of them because of the speed they are traveling at plus they can be directly overhead.

The light conditions are much more critical at an airshow it`s very difficult shooting into a light source and your only going to produce poor shot`s unless you are very lucky.

I see Coleraine Borough Council have finally put out a press release for the Airbus A380 although there's an embargo until 10:00 am tomorrow morning.

Tango can probably help you out with that but here's some of the common airshow frequencies.

Guess it's time to start praying to the weather gods.  :)

Question now is where best to set-up camp on the day?

Hello! Newbie here.
Yeah, I was wondering - where would be the best place to set up for photos?
Me and the aul' 70-200mm is hoping for a dry day!

Steve.

If you read just a few posts earlier you should find some useful info on this but to be honest with a 70-200mm I'd say it has to be one of the cliff tops.

Casper those not rain dance moves better come through! Our plan is set, going to fly up (hopefully) from Wateford early on saturday morning in the Warrior. Four of us coming....the 7 hour car journey was just too much! Try get to Bellarena for around 10 ish and get a lift into Portrush. Really cant wait for it now! It's prob then only time Ill see a 380...until I fly them :) haha ( I wish).
The blades at Bray were unbelievable so its a fab lineup, not to mention all the other amazing stuff.

Forecast at the minute looks pretty poor :( Looks like the strong winds low cloud and occasional heavy rain is set to continue for the next 10-14 days.
North West of the UK is meant to be the worst-now there`s a surprise!  ::)

I think the good weather last year was a fluke-I have been going to Portrush Show`s since they started and strong winds and heavy showers combined with low cloud seem to be the norm-but we are a hardy bunch us airshow types ;D

I can`t believe how much rain we have had this month :o-and chilly with it-think I might move to Italy :D  If my lottery numbers come up I`m gone!!!

If they send their demonstration model I think it's based in Toulouse.

Fly in direct from there?

Aldergrove must the only NI airport that could possibly handle it but I presumed it couldn't even though it can handle 747's. I'd guess that it's just going to fly over, do its display and then head back.

There's a Singapore Airlines one which has been sitting at Heathrow (away from the gates). I saw it both on the way to California, and on my return - still sitting in the same place. Could be that they use this one for demos?

A380 Tour

For a moment there I misread that and thought the Singapore Airlines A380 would be appearing at Portrush  :-X None the less, it will be cool seeing F-WWOW again, the very first A380 prototype.

I take it you're going to the airport on the Saturday and the airshow on Sunday. Somehow I don't think you'll keep up with the A380 on it's way from the airport :)
