Hi all just joined and thought i might post some of the Notams that are connected with the airshow ,hope were all set for some rehearsals tomorrow , i see the BBMF are also doing a flypast at Hillborough on Sat as well .

Hi Chris,

Just catching up with the messages over the past few days as I've limited net access these days.  Although not related to Portrush I was wondering if you had picked up on this NOTAM.

G0269/09 - AIRSPACE RESERVATION
TR:55N030W 56N020W PIKIL ELPIN MIMKU
THE FOLLOWING SEPARATION WILL BE PROVIDED WITHIN OCEANIC AIRSPACE:
MNPS 60NM, NON MNPS 120NM. FL250 - FL270, 04 SEP 12:43 2009 UNTIL 04 SEP 16:09
2009. CREATED: 03 SEP 13:18 2009

I've a feeling that this might be the TX ANG F-16's which are due for a ten day training mission at Caslav airbase.  Could make for some interesting comms as they pass through.

folks, watched the warm display of the beach landing, all i can say is WOW, the sea kings pilots are fantastic and flew in very strong winds with superb skill !
I'll post a poor qualitly video of it later (camera phone)

I was down earlier in the day for the press launch but with no Largs Bay for the 1315 show I decided it was better to head back to work.  I saw the two helo's coming down the Bann Valley from work and was able to keep an eye on them all the way into Portrush.  They were working ATC as Navy Commando Formation and using 372.500 for air-to-air comms.  The aircraft were ZF121 & ZD625.

Also had a couple of low flying Pumas this evening over Coleraine.  The two aircraft had both of their side doors open and would have made a nice photograph if I could have run for the camera in time!

Sorry to disagree mate, but last year the parking wardens were issuning tickets left right and centre, so be very careful where you park folks !

I have to agree with this statement as it was quite a hot topic and was well documented following the event last year.  Basically anyone who had parked up before 0800 thought that all was fine and headed off to watch the show.  Shortly after 0800 the no parking cones were then set out along the roads were many cars had already parked.  Once the NCP arrived on scene they had a field day.  Numerous arguments ensued but tickets were still issued.  Although I didn't post it in my previous frequency guide for the airshow, at last years event the NCP were using 164.0625 with a CTCSS of 210.7 so it might be worth keeping an ear on depending on where you've left the car.  I tend to take a few photographs of my car parked now and hope that it will be proof enough that there were no cones to be seen when I left it there.

Thats a very good idea to take a pic of the car b4 leaving. Might use it myself. You would think that with such a big event they would loosen up a bit in regards to parking.....where do they expect ppl to go?

Now for the bad news - Largs Bay will not be visiting - stuck in port with electrical problems. Big disappointment to all those who have worked so hard since February to get it. (And all those who were going to get a flight in a Sea King out to land on her! Grrr!)

Watched the beach assault yesterday with the 2 Sea Kings and the zodiacs. Very good and well worth a look.

Think the weather will be OK.

Merlin will be doing a rehearsal at 2pm today.

Somebody earlier talked about the ground - Portrush obviously has very sandy soil and drains really well - the site is in great shape despite the summer we've had.

Flying display versus fly-past? No contest!

Really disappointed to hear that. Was on board Mounts Bay a couple of weeks ago at the Tall Ships and was looking forward to seeing one of those ships in action. Shame they can't send a stand-in (one of the new Type 45's would have been perfect).

On the plus side the A380 can do a low approach now  :)

Hi Guys,

First post here, I'm travelling to Portrush tomorrow and I'm looking for information on the show if any of you would be kind enough to help out.

From reading previous posts Ramore Head is recommended by a few people but if (and that's a big if) the sun comes out you'll be shooting straight into the sun, has anyone taken shots from the west side of Portrush, in or around Blackrock Hill? If so what are they like. As for Ramore Head, does the display axis pass over land or is it off shore?

Does anyone know what the air show display frequency is?

And finally, what is the best time to arrive? I'm driving from Galway (about 5 hours) and I don't want to arrive and be stuck 10 deep in the crowd! I was thinking along the lines of 10am but is that too late?

Thanks in advance for your help, I've been so busy the last few weeks with work & travel that Portrush crept up on me and I fell a bit behind on my preparation.

Regards,

Frank.

as regards the Notam i hadn`t seen that one and it sure could be an interesting one .

The refuelling tanker 'Cacti 21' went u/s while airborne, the flight of 8 chicks 'Trend 71' diverted into Andrews AFB.  A delay of at least 24 hours is expected.

Hi Blackbird,

yes 10pm was a typo, fixed that now. 10am it is then. I'm coming prepared this weekend, I thought I was prepared at Radom last weekend but I got soaked through, this weekend I'm bring a skiing jacket, umbrella, boots, the works! (it was so wet and damp last weekend both my cameras stopped working even though they were inside plastic bags and under an umbrella!!!)

Frank.

The Huey has just went over my QTH, from the path it's looking like they're heading for City of Derry Airport.  I'm in the middle of charging batteries so all scanners are off at the moment.

Hi Frank ,
I was down in your neck of the woods last weekend and judgeing by my travel time if you allow 5 hours you will be arriving in nice time. As for Ramore head if you look on google maps , the satellite bit and zoom in on portrush Ramore head is the bit on out from the harbour you can also see on there the red trimmed tennis courts where some of the helos land .
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the travel time info. I have the tennis courts & the nearby car park stored in my satnav. The satnav is showing a trip time of 4 hours 20mins but Irish roads have a habit of slowing you down! I figure if I leave by 5am I'll be parked up by 10am.

Frank.

Driving up for the show on Sunday, approaching from Coleraine - Any tips on parking for the day with a view to a speedy exit after the event due to engagement in Belfast at 20.00 that evening. Thanks in advance ! Fingers crossed for favourable display weather !

Do what I'll be doing - leaving 10 or 15 mins from the end of the Red Arrows display. I've done that for that last few years and I'm out of Portrush in less than 10 mins from getting into the car.

Hi Frank.
the display line for the jets and possibly the BBMF is off shore, outside of the bay. The slower aircraft and the Blades and Team Guinot will come in close to the cliffs and the beach.
