As been mentioned I would happily pay £10-£15 to see the show, but the Town setting would make it very difficult to collect an admission fee.
I would estimate that only 10-15% of the crowd actually have any interest in aviation, the rest to just come along because the show is free;and most just come to see the Red Arrows.
We have all witnessed the mass hurried evacuation after the Arrows have displayed
Geoff Brownhutt didn`t seem too impressed when asked why the programmes are given away free-they are £5.00 each and most of the money goes to the British Legion.
It didn`t sound like Mr Brownhutt held out much hope for a show next year, and I`m think he may well be correct.
Once a an airshow gets "dropped",they very rarely reappear, and with the current economic climate I doubt Portrush will be the only airshow casualty.
The supposed contribution of £70-80,000 put up by the Council does`t sound that much considering the economic benefit it brings to the area.
I think the whole cancellation thing stinks-I really feel the Council should/could have done more to ensure the show went ahead even if it was just a smaller event this year.
