RAF Red Arrows replacement
« on: September 24, 2021, 10:33:28 PM »
Looks likely that Aeralis will be offered the contract to build the Red Arrows Hawk T1 Replacement. (Though this is not confirmed)

I heard about their design late 2019/early 2020 before Covid hit and they were talked about, all be it very briefly as the Hawk T1 replacement. Over the last year the project has moved forward and they have been already awarded a contract to design modular aircraft for the RAF.

Thankfully, it looks like they will be staying in jets. I cringe at the thought of them using Prop based aircraft like the T6 Texan II or worse, the Grob Prefect.......

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if that project goes **** up.  Reminds me of Ajax.

Although the Hawk may look like a capable aircraft,  it really isn't, and they are always complaining about its rubbish brakes and 101 other things.
In fact, if you watched the program on TV about their American tour recently you would have seen how many problems they had

That`s quite an interesting article, it does seem like an odd choice to build and operate an aircraft specifically for the Red Arrows, which will not be in general RAF service.
Surely a large part of the Red Arrows remit is to promote the RAF and British Aircraft manufacturing, so to use an aircraft that is not in general RAF service strikes me as strange.

The Hawk T1`s and T1A`s used by the Reds are old tech without digital systems, and should really have been replaced several years ago.
From what I have read the T2 version is not suitable for formation aerobatics, mainly down to it`s different wing design, and the specific engine version it has.
