Looks as if a T.2 Hawk has crashed in wales today.

The two pilots have ejected safely, and theres early reports that the aircraft hit a goose.

Edit:- it looks to be RAF BAE systems Hawk T.2 ZK032 (FH) as VYT15 that crashed.

#1
Almost certainly an engine failure of some kind, good to hear both pilots ejected,no serious injuries reported as yet.
Could be a birdstrike, but I didn`t see any birds in the video,I think it may have been a compressor stall.

Video of the ejection and crash here....  https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/582573

A new video has emerged of the Hawk T2 as it begins it`s takeoff roll, there is a fire which seems to be just behind the rear cockpit. This is where the APU is located on the Hawk of all variants.

Looks like all T1s and T2s have paused operations due to the crash.

Glad no one was hurt. The aircraft got very close to a house it looks like

The Red Arrows were cleared to fly yesterday ( Sat ) and took part in a Family Day at RAF Wddington.
They are displaying at Le Touquet Airshow in France today.

Im seeing reports that the aircraft took off with a fuel cap missing. How or why would that cause a £20 million aircraft to crash unless it was ingested into the engine?

Is this the article you are reffering to ?  https://www.adsadvance.co.uk/raf-hawk-t2-missing-fuel-cap-report-claims/

" According to The Sun, investigators have found that the fuel cap was "left off" the jet before the flight. The RAF has not publicly confirmed the reported finding and the investigation remains ongoing."

Sounds like usual tabloid junk to me.
Most reputable reports are saying it looked very much like a fire in the APU which sits behind the second seat cockpit.I don`t know if the APU has it`s own fuel tank, or if it`s fed from the main tanks on the aircraft.

I thought an APU fire from the other footage on the runway. There was a video I saw, an ex RAF pilot saying the same. I was looking for a report from the MOD/RAF as I've noticed that the Hawks are flying again.
