Guys,
I have never attended the Portrush Air Show and believe the Display Line is supposed to be much farther away than at Newcastle.
My questions are

1) - Is it worth going to see?
2) - Where is best place to get reasonable photographs
3) - Is there a list of Aircraft which will be on display available?

Thanks.

Saturday
http://www.airwavesportrush.co.uk/?event=air-waves-portrush-2014-day-1

Sunday
http://www.airwavesportrush.co.uk/?event=air-waves-portrush-2014-day-2

Unfortunately the venue has been changed this year so I'm, as are others I think, unsure of where the best place will be.

Is it worth going to see? This year I think it is and will be there are the Saturday.

Looking. at the maps there does not seem to be much space for spectators, going to be packed!

Do we know exactly where the enthusiast marquee will be? Pricey but might be worth it to have some space and Loos!

The reason the show has been moved to East Strand is because the display line was getting so far offshore. The new position is supposed to be much closer in, closer than Newcastle. But this remains to be seen.

1) - With the scheduled appearance of the two Lancs I think it is worth going this year for that reason alone. However given that Vera (the Canadian Lanc) has only today suffered a mechanical, the visit may now be in jeopardy.
2) - Depending on what kind of reach you have on your camera the best place to spot will probably be Ramore Head. If all else fails it will at least elevate you above the crowd line.
3) - The airshow website lists all aircraft scheduled to attend. However this is no guarantee that they'll turn up. The BBMF in particular are notorious for not making it over due to weather issues. In addition to the flying display there will be helis on static display; Huey, Loach, Merlin at present

Re the Canadian Lanc,I understand that engine number 4 is to be replaced, work was due to start this morning-how long it will take and then the associated required test flights etc is uncertain.
Not good news, but let`s hope they can get Vera flying again in time for Portrush.

Thought about this myself for the handy parking & facilities, but it's 'adults only' afaik & I usually bring one or two of my kids :(  (daughter is 13 and as avid an enthusiast about aircraft & photography as I am)

This is taken from the website ;
As usual there is free admission and free parking. Spectator viewing stretches from the northern tip of the peninsula at Lansdowne and along the coastal promenade, past the Arcadia, to East Strand. For the first time viewing is permitted from the beach (from The Arcadia to the burn) so bring your picnic blankets. The beach from the burn to Curran Point (and all the sand dunes) is a prohibited area because of the display line. Any infringement will result in the cancellation of the air displays. Please note there is no access to the sea from the Arcadia to Curran Point. Whiterocks Beach will operate as usual although pedestrian access from Whiterocks Beach to Portrush town is extremely limited on both days – there will be one short window per day to facilitate pedestrian movement.

Given their scheduled display time I'm surprised the Reds are arriving so early (almost 5hrs on the ground at Aldergrove).

Think we'll be able to get out of Portrush and down as far as Aldergrove before they depart? I'm hedging my bets on Ramore Head still being the place to go for viewing

Any word on the Helicopter display that was to be confirmed??

The AAC Lynx Display Team is the latest heli to be added to the line up. I'm assuming it will be XZ647 Lynx AH7 from Blue Eagles.

Anyone have an idea if any aircraft will be parking overnight at eglinton?

Going on previous years I assume the following will happen:

Eglinton - Jet Provost, Strikemaster & Catalina. Also Bronco & Mustang possible.

Bellarena - The Blades, The RV8ors, Autogyro

Causeway Airfield - Huey & Loach

Aldergrove - Canberra, Red Arrows, Lynx

This is just my guesswork so don't take it as 100% accurate!

Weather for both days looks reasonable, dry both days (some sunny spells Saturday, overcast Sunday) with temps of around 15C but wind from North 12-15 mph, which if accurate is pretty good.
