Forecast at the minute looks pretty poor  Looks like the strong winds low cloud and occasional heavy rain is set to continue for the next 10-14 days.
North West of the UK is meant to be the worst-now there`s a surprise!

I think Lidl knew the airshow was next weekend and have stocked up with all weather gear ;D

check out the weatherproof rain cape 8) It might come in handy (also can be used as a tent!!!)

i heard the news in the newspaper i couldnt believe it i thought it was the 1st of april.

its my first time going to an air show but im going to the city airport to see the flyover cant wait had to prospone a personel flight for the event. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Be careful here, I have read else where that the A380 will infact be performing a flypast at Belfast International Airport (EGAA) and not at Belfast City Airport (EGAC).

I'm into the weather and regularly study the output from the various weather models that forecasters use. The current output from both the GFS and ECMWF models is for a weak ridge of high pressure to cross Ireland on Saturday (1020mb).
This should allow for reasonably dry conditions and possibly partly sunny skies. Temperature will be around 14c to 15c.
There is good agreement at this stage from the Ensembles that this will be the outcome on Saturday, however it is still 6 days away and so could change.

It's not unusual for it to pish rain here, while the sun splits the stones a few miles away.

I always pack sun cream and a good coat as you may need either or both during the day.

Was lucky enough to catch the A380 display (by accident ... it's a long story!) from the train station platform at Schoenefeld last June (2008) - big, very low, and sooooo slow on banked turns that it just seems to hang in the air!
Here's a interesting thought tho' - the train platforms are about 1 mile from the runways at Schoenefeld (GoogleEarth), and the A380 was banking overhead and way on out past the station as it turned back to the airport .........  the bay at West Strand is about 3/4 of a mile wide, so there could be some really amazing photo opportunities to be had from Ramore Head, regardless of the weather, on the day!

I for one can only imagine the size of this aircraft but I thing that this photo helps convey it's hugeness (if that's even a word :) )

There seems to be a wee bit of confusion over this - I've heard both the City and the International mentioned.

Thanks for the welcome, guys.
Well, I for one am hoping it's going to be more than just a fly-through - I mean, maybe I'm being naive here....... but it's coming from Prestwick to Portrush then departing for Belfast ...... so it's gotta at least turn somewhere, right?

Yeah.. Just not necessarily in front of the crowd at Portrush though!  :D

I think he'll do a bit more than that though. Maybe a turn in fron of the crowd and if lucky a high banking turn before departing.

Weatherwise, the models still show a weak ridge of high pressure crossing Ireland on Saturday (1020mb) giving dry conditions and some partly sunny skies. Don't worry that the Met Office forecast is saying unsettled as that forecast is produced with older data. I expect it to come into line in the next day or so.

Fingers crossed that the models continue to show decent conditions for Sat

Hi all,

First post for me. Going to be staying in Portrush over the weekend for the airshow. Fantastic news with A380 making an appearance.

Hopefully the weather will hold out.

Just a shame I only have 200mm to use on my camera, and Calumet don't rent anything longer than that!

Cheers

Colin

:Welcome: Hi stcolin and welcome to the forum.

If you stand on any of the cliff tops your 200mm lens will serve you well. I know from standing on Ramore Head that the Reds, An-2 and all of the helos get very close to it.

Plus some/all of the helos will be using the tennis courts behind Ramore Head as a landing pad.

I take it most of you will be on Ramore Head then?
Last year I was just on the promenade so I fancy a different angle this year.

Hey all. I'm new here. Have been  reading this topic today so just had to sign up.

I'm 18 and go to the airshow both days every year. Am very pleased with this yr's airshow.

I do hope that the BBMF makes it this yr because me and my dad have been very disappointed in the past when the spitfire wasnt able to make it over so fingers crossed I can be satisfied this year.

The line up this yr has been the best ive seen since i started goin to the airshow and been wishin the week would fly in so I can go sit in my seat at west bay and enjoy it.  ;D

God what would you give for skies like that.

Has anyone got any confirmation of flypast or display by A380 ???
